Albums to Start Off Summer

Summer always seems like a perfect time for artist to drop music. Since this season has begun, we've gotten many different albums. It's difficult to decide which album is a favorite or even list them in a certain order.

To be honest, it's hard to keep up and listen to them all.

If you're like me, you have to sit on the album for awhile. Give it several listens before claiming your thoughts and opinions about it. Then after be confident about how the album makes you feel.

In no order, these are just a few albums that caught my attention in June:

Jay Rock- Redemption The OG of TDE, Jay Rock, came out with his album and it's that hard West Coast Rap we love. Redemptionis all about the hustle and making moves to get where you want to be. From the start of the album, we hear the motivation in his lyrics about working hard. We get a vision of where he grew up: being around drugs, gangs, being black in America, and crooked cops. He expresses another side of him, rapping about love, loyalty and being intimate with someone. Redemptionis what we been waiting for from Rock.

Nas- Nasir Since Nas' song, "Nas Album Done," on DJ Khalid's album, we've been impatiently waiting for it. The 7 track album has some knowledge the world's been missing in Hip-Hop lately. He raps about cops shooting a young boy and no justice for the lives being hurt or lost. Nas brings truth about people not being happy with what they have when it comes to relationships and materialistic things. Most importantly, Nasir is about freedom and making change in the world.

Jorja Smith- Lost & Found The soul vibes that you get out of these tracks will have you lost in thought. Jorja's voice brings to life topics of relationships, being young in love, and wondering if it's even happening, or going to last. Women can definitely relate to her songs about not being on the same page as the person you're interested in. She also sings about finding herself throughout these situations in her life and just being content with it all at the end.

Teyana Taylor- K.T.S.E It seems like she can do anything she sets her minds to. Teyana's R&B touch expresses being in love yet overthinking every single thing, when you should just enjoy it while it last. She also sings about each having their own personalities and character traits, but working together to make things work. Although it's not all about the issues, Teyana also expresses the more intimate side of love and being daring with a partner. To end the album, she brings out her more rapper side and speaks on loyalty and blessings in her career.

Kanye West and Kid Cuid- Kids See Ghost We all missed Cudi's voice and were extremely hyped when we heard this album was happening. The artists rap about haters gossiping, but at the end of the day knowing who's real and who's not. Cudi raps about being "lost" in his ways and having to snap out of it before losing everything. The rappers also express that they feel "free" to the point where they don't feel pain and can say or do what they please. The touching track "Reborn" expresses what Kanye was feeling after being off of medications and people having so much negative things to say. Cudi on the other hand, speaks about becoming at peace with himself and moving forward. Kids See Ghost has plenty of catchy beats with flows we are used to from both artist.

Kanye West- Ye Kanye dropping his album had fans suprised. Yeis a little different than the Kanye we're used to. He touches base on being Bi-Polar and the thoughts that go through the mind of one dealing with it. He talks about death, love, and life. Kanye also expresses being in a relationship, issues happening, but sticking by each other through it all. He gives a message to everyone to be smarter about the choices they make. He also takes a moment to address drama and that he doesn't "take advice from people less successful than" him. Yewill have you in mixed emotions and thoughts about it. Overall it's a new Kanye that we have some getting used to.

Drake- Scorpion The A and B tracklist had everyone talking about Scorpion. It has a mixture of both soft and upbeat songs. He raps about everything from lovers, haters, and life. Drake gets personal when he addresses the topic that had everyone questioning if it was true, him having a son. He also brings to attention how people are when it comes to social media and worrying about what everyone says. Scorpion might take some time to figure out a favorite song on it, but this is something to enjoy for awhile.

Let's take a minute to appreciate all the talent we've been blessed with lately. It could have been a dry start to the Summer with nothing dropping, but that's not the case here.

We might be set for the Summer, but that's speaking too soon, since the season is not over just yet.
